Teen talent takes the borough to the top of the pile in contests

TWO teenage musicians have done the borough proud in separate music competitions.

TWO teenage musicians have done the borough proud in separate music competitions.

Dan Buckle, from Olton, is the guitarist with blues rock band Rebecca & The Roses - who have just lifted a Battle of the Bands title at Cox’s Yard, in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

The four-piece was formed by music students who met while studying at Stratford College.

It was the first time that 17-year-old Dan and his bandmates had entered a competition of this kind.

Proud dad Robert said: “They’re a blues rock group, which is quite an unusual sound for people of their age. They’ve got a fair few gigs lined up as well.”

Also flying the flag for Solihull last week was Arley Road resident Megan Santer.

The 15-year-old, who sings with St Alphege Choir, made it through to the area finals of Live & Unsigned.

She performed at the regional heats at the NEC last weekend. Her voice impressed judges, who didn’t hesitate to put her through to the next round.

“I started to perform in musicals and that gave me inspiration to begin doing my own songs,” Megan told us. “I’m so excited, though I have to stay calm and focused as this is in the middle of my GCSEs.”

She now goes up against the other regional winners at Bedford on May 13.
