THE Virtuoso Violin will be celebrating the works of Bach and Paganini plus other string music next week in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

The festival offers masterclasses, individual and orchestral tuition and performances for the over 16s, plus inspiring in-depth understanding of the music led by distinguished international musicians.

There will also be three concerts during the festival at King Edward VI School, Stratford on Monday August 4, Saturday, August 9, and at Holy Trinity Church, Stratford on Monday, August 11. The first two concerts start at 7.30pm, the third at 8pm.

The festival was founded by Dr Rimma Sushanskaya as an opportunity for young violinists to study the virtuosic repertoire of solo Bach and Paganini. Rimma was originally inspired to set up the event from her experience of studying with the Bach specialist Dr Rosalyn Tureck.

International musicians at the festival include: Dr Sushanskaya herself, Dr Savely Shalman - (violin) professor at the Special School of Music in St Petersburg, Alvia Vandysheva - (violin) head of strings at the College of Music at the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatoire and Dr Robert Markham - (piano) international soloist and chamber musician, and tutor at Birmingham Conservatoire.

For tickets to any of the above concerts call 0121 373 9649.
